Why giving is definitely cooler than taking (not just when it comes to period poverty)
When I started nookees it was crystal clear that I am not just building a product for people who can afford it. 500 million people who do not have access to period products and me sitting in my little home office in Berlin, changing the world just for the little privileged bubble I was born into? No way at all.
So I started by donating half of my first production back in 2020 in Bali, and now I am proud to say to not just run an amazing start-up but also supporting three amazing projects connected to period poverty with my nookees Foundation: Girls on a mission in Uganda, Nidisi in Nepal and Viva con Agua in South Africa.
Seeing my business growing and more and more people buying and loving my product: amazing. Feeling what kind of impact I can have through the money I raise and putting it into my foundation: incredible.
With my podcast partner in crime Felix Oldenburg from wonderful bcause we often talk about the so called cost of doing nothing. For example, if we do not invest in problem-solving solutions regarding climate change today, saving the environment in the future will be up to six times more expensive than today. The same example works regarding period poverty: If we do not make sure that young girls in the global south don't drop out of school because of their menstruation, the price of the future will be high. Education will change the world, not sitting in the forest while bleeding into a bunch of mud.
Sharing is caring. Donating even more. Supporting at its best. That's why giving feels so much better than taking. Trust me and meanwhile check out bcause as they are doing an incredible job to make it as easy as possible.
