An ode to cotton (and one against biocides)

An ode to cotton (and one against biocides)

When I briefly considered creating a new period product after being such an unhappy customer of the reusable ones I could find on the market, I started researching, and I still remember how I felt about what I found. From the very beginning, I had such a weird feeling about the usage of biocides, even if other companies promoted this like the holy grail. Wearing a period product for the whole day without changing and afterward just washing it cold? I wasn't really sure about that...

But still, most of the products I found were full of those chemicals, and nobody really seemed to care. Until I started talking to (potential) customers, and after I invented nookees, collecting the feedback of people already using my product. More and more I figured out that more and more people became aware of bicodes, and what they can do to our bodies:

❌ biocides = chemicals designed to kill living organisms and they do not differentiate between good and bad bacteria in our bodies (aka they can disrupt our natural vaginal flora)
❌ our vagina absorbs chemicals 60x more efficiently than eating them
❌ chemical treatments (like biocides) wash out over time

But here comes the deal (and what I found quite quickly once I looked a bit deeper into fabric technology): hot washing at 60°C naturally kills bacteria, so there is no need to use any chemicals at all. Plus, if the period product is made out of cotton, it even gets better as cotton fibers have natural micropores that create little ventilation channels. Due to this, moisture gets pulled away from the skin and this kind of automatically reduces fungal growth conditions.

Happy to announce that we're getting there. I feel such a shift regarding the awareness of reusable period products at all, and that's the cool thing about it.
